Unit 210
Instructor: Jerry Bennett

June 25-Aug 13
8 weeks/$285

This class will explore the process of adding cellulose-based fibers to wet porcelain to improve workability and resolve common hand-building challenges. These fibers burn away during the first firing, leaving the original clay intact.

Students will use the slab technique to create both functional and sculptural forms. Jerry will provide practical, problem-solving advice for your studio work, including techniques for figxing broken pieces and preventing cracks. Because many traditional clay rules do not apply to fiber clay, this is an excellent opportunity to explore new creative approaches.

Participants will receive handouts containing information on paper clay, glaze formulas, and supplier details.

Please bring your ideas and inspirations, along with the following items:

  • Hand-building tools

  • A small pair of scissors

  • A clean canvas for your workspace
